Forsyth County District 2 commissioner Rick Swope has resigned from the post after less than a year on the job.
County officials said that Swope’s resignation effective at noon Aug. 15 came as a result of his acceptance of an executive position with E*TRADE, an investment and stock trading firm. Officials said the job came with the requirement that outside business activities be strictly limited, including public service positions.
“I regret not being able to complete my full term,” said Swope in a statement. “But it has been an honor to have been a steward of this post and to offer my time and talents toward a better representative government in Forsyth County.” Swope also served as vice chair of the commission.
County officials said that a special election will be needed to fill Swope’s term, which runs through Dec. 31, 2020. Details have yet to be worked out. The five-person commission has members elected by district to serve four-year terms. District 2 covers much of the southern portion of the county.
