Forsyth County planning commissioners voted to recommend denial of one residential rezoning project after hearing density and traffic concerns, but recommended another after dealing with similar issues at their Aug. 29 meeting.

Commissioners voted 4-1 to deny Van D. Hall’s proposed rezoning of 16.78 acres from agricultural to residential for 20 detached homes at 3355 Mathis Airport Parkway. Neighbors in opposition raised concern about the density of the proposed project at 1.20 units per acre. They also described existing traffic on Mathis as a “nightmare” and raised drainage as a sticking point as well.

Commissioners recommended approval of Bethelview LLC’s push to rezone 88 acres in the 38 and 39-hundred blocks of Hurt Bridge Road for 130 residential lots, with a density of 1.47 units per acre. Opposing neighbors raised several concerns, including the potential impact on nearby schools that are already over capacity. The commissioners signed off on the deal after an agreement was reached to reduce the development to 105 homes.

The recommendations will now go to the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners for a final decision.
