Flying object sends driver to hospital

Holly Springs police are seeking the public’s help finding a truck that dropped a piece of metal on I-575 that crashed through the windshield of another vehicle, striking a motorist in the face.

The incident happened about 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the northbound lanes of I-575 near Sixes Road, police said.

Lt. Tanya Anderson, spokeswoman for the Holly Springs Police Department, told the AJC that the object that struck the other driver was “a metal item that was either thrown from or fell from the other vehicle.”

An exact description of the object was withheld by police.

“The motorist received injuries to the face and was treated and released from Cherokee Northside Hospital” in Canton, Anderson said in an email.

The only description the injured motorist was able to give police was that the truck was a primer-gray vehicle, Anderson said. “We are hoping media attention will generate some more witnesses to the accident,” she said.

The charges the truck’s driver could face will depend on the information developed in the investigation, the spokeswoman said.

Anyone with information about the incident was asked to contact Holly Springs police Detective Greg Bettis at 770-721-7526.
