With prom and graduation season approaching, Fayette County is reminding parents about the penalties for allowing underage drinking at their homes.

In 2015, “social hosting” ordinances went into effect in the county and its municipalities that hold adults legally responsible for any possession or consumption of alcohol that occurs on their property by guests under age 21, regardless of whether the adults provide the alcohol. Penalties include fines, community service or jail time, even for first offenses.

A public service announcement explaining the ordinance, produced by local law enforcement and community groups, is at www.youtube.com/watch?v=IbrPjWGY0AY.
