As part of an upgrade to school security systems, Fayette County will be installing so-called “panic buttons” in all schools and additional security cameras to elementary schools. The Board of Education voted 5-0 on May 18 to approve $27,000 for devices that can directly alert the 911 emergency system. Another $141,708 will be spent to place more cameras in the front and rear entrances of the elementary schools, to help front office staff more easily monitor visitors. All funds will come from ESPLOST revenue.
