Fayette County Public Schools’ new Work-Based Learning Program is nearly three-quarters toward its goal of placing about 100 students with local employers.

Virginia Gibbs, coordinator of innovative partnerships for the system, told the Board of Education Tuesday that 73 students are currently enrolled in the program, which provides school credit and structured work experience for juniors and seniors.

Students are paired with employers throughout the county to gain experience in such fields as business management and administration, education and training, healthcare, information technology, fine arts, science and engineering, architecture and communications.
