The Fayette County Board of Education was updated Monday night about a new program that promotes positive student behavior.

Intervention specialist Susan Barrow and a team of program leaders outlined Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, which is being implemented at 13 elementary, middle and high schools in Fayette and nearly 400 schools in Georgia.

Calling it “a shift in thinking about how we deal with student discipline,” Barrow said the data-driven program focuses on teaching students about expectations and accountability to reduce the amount of time spent and lost on front office referrals and suspensions.
