A community forum to discuss the health dangers of vaping will be presented by Fayette County Public Schools from 7 to 8:15 p.m. on Nov. 12 at the Whitewater High School auditorium, 100 Wildcat Way in Fayetteville.
The free forum is geared toward students in grades 6-12 and their parents, but is open to everyone. Dr. Jared Cavanaugh of the Georgia Poison Center will lead the discussion. Although no vaping-related illnesses have been reported in Fayette, the state Department of Public Health has noted two fatalities in Georgia since September. Fayette has already banned vaping in schools, but the school system says students have been caught doing it. The county has put educational posters titled “The Truth Behind the Vapor” in its middle and high schools, as well as in the fifth-grade halls of its elementary schools.
All forum attendees will receive smaller copies of the poster for future reference.
