The East Point City Council recently approved the creation of a blighted property task force. The task force, which will have nine members picked by City Council, will identify and address any blighted property within the city.

City Council has previously identified 374 blighted properties across the four districts of the city.

The resolution was initiated by East Point Mayor Jannquell Peters to list and map the properties so they may be improved. Three council members voted no, saying the resolution was not written clearly enough. Council members Myron Cook, Stephanie Gordon and Sharon Shropshire all felt the resolution left some questions unanswered.

“With all these changes I can’t even tell you now what’s in it,” said council member Cook. Despite lingering questions, the resolution passed five to three.
