9 p.m. update: Eanes school district voters rejected an $89.5 million school bond proposition Saturday after a contentious election campaign that included well-funded and organized political action committees on both sides of the issue.

The ballot item was rejected by nearly 55 percent of 7,007 voters who weighed in, many of whom were barraged with mail fliers from both sides.

The proposition would have raised the tax rate by 2.5 cents per $100 of assessed property value.

It would have financed construction of a new campus to replace an elementary school; a new administration building that would move district services off school campuses; middle school fine arts room expansions; a new elementary school playground; and swapping out some older furniture with rolling desks and other seating that encourages movement.

7:30 p.m. update: Now that polls have closed, Travis County has released early voting results, but not Election Day results. Early voting totals show that 2,630 people — 53 percent — voted against the bond and 2,260 people — 46 percent — voted for the bond.

In the Eanes school board election, early voting results show Christie Bybee leading Laurie Maccini. Early voting totals show that 2,678 people — 62 percent — voted for Bybee and 1,612 people — 37 percent — voted for the Maccini.
