The Duluth City Council reviewed changes to a plan for a pedestrian crossing across State Route 120 at last week’s work session. The city’s Main Street Phase II plans include a Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon to get pedestrians across State Route 120 to the Block, the area enclosed by State Route 120, West Lawrenceville Street, Hill Street and Main Street.

The original flashing beacon location was developed prior to Dreamland BBQ making its home on the Block. Dreamland’s vehicle size for deliveries cannot access the Block driveway with the raised pedestrian refuge islands in place. Without those islands, a mid-block crossing would be less safe.

City staff is now evaluating moving the flashing beacon to either the intersection of Main Street and State Route 120 or Hill Street and State Route 120.
