After a recent meeting with Decatur officials, Weaver Capital Partners has decided not to sue the city over property currently used as a dog park and owned by the Samuel L. Jones Boys & Girls Club.
The developer had wanted to purchase .6 acre, one-third of the dog park, and build two homes on the site, but in May city commissioners denied its project proposal. Principal owner Jay Weaver believes this is a conflict of interest since the city has long wanted to purchase the entire Jones property, roughly five acres.
According to Weaver, city attorney Bryan Downs told the developer the city had done nothing wrong.
“I feel like we’ve been treated badly,” Weaver said Monday. “But we have other projects going, other municipalities willing to work with us. I don’t think [Decatur was] transparent, but it’s not our plan to sue unless we find out we’ve been treated worse than we thought.”
