A Florida man and a woman had small three children with them early Friday when they robbed and beat a woman at an Orlando area convenience store, the Orange County Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies were called shortly after 1 a.m. to a Kwik Stop store after the man and the woman battered a woman who owed them money before stealing her cash and identification, Orange County Lt. William Bartlett said.

Investigators said the pair had three children in the car — ages 3 weeks, 3, 6 — at the time of the robbery and beating.

Deputies said they apprehended the woman, but the man ran off.

"(The suspect) was located in a lake, where he refused to surrender," Bartlett said. "After several hours, the male suspect was apprehended as he attempted the exit the lake."

The duo faces robbery and child neglect charges.
