Decatur has hired a full-time planning director in Angela Threadgill who’d been serving as interim planning director since August. She was chosen from among four who applied for the job.

Threadgill replaces Amanda Thompson, planning director since 2007, who left in August to become Arts Program Officer for the Knight Foundation in Miami.

Threadgill brings deep experience to the job. After graduating from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 1999 she worked in the planning department of her hometown Asheville, N.C. until 2004 before leaving to work for the Atlanta planning office’s urban design committee from 2004 to 2007

From 2007 to 2010 she was a senior planner for the northeast quadrant of the city and county of of San Francisco, an area covering that city’s major tourist areas including the Ferry Building, Fisherman’s Wharf, the Financial District, Market Street and Union Square.

Threadgill told the AJC Friday that two major Decatur projects for the next year include updating the 2007 community transportation plan and creating a new green space plan.

In August Senior Engineer John Madajewski retired, while Public Information Officer Casie Yoder left this week to start her own company. Both jobs remain open.
