The Cumming City Council voted at its most recent meeting to sponsor the planned Junior Achievement Discovery Center, with the precise sponsorship commitment to be determined later.

The decision came after Forsyth County Schools representatives briefed council members on the center, which will be built adjacent to the Alliance Academy of Cumming-Forsyth County. The academy is a non-traditional high school that will serve about 1,200 students interested in one of several career pathways.

The JA center on Lanier 400 Parkway will serve middle-school students in Forsyth, Hall, Dawson and Lumpkin counties. Students will get 12 weeks of in-classroom lessons and then will head to the center to take part in immersive simulations on running a business, serving as an elected official and other roles.

It will be the third such center in Georgia.
