Majette faces law suspension

Former U.S. Rep. Denise Majette should be suspended from practicing law for three years for unsubstantiated billings in an estate litigation and for submitting false and misleading information during a disciplinary proceeding, a State Bar of Georgia panel is recommending.

The State Bar review panel declined to adopt a recommendation by a court-appointed special master that Majette be disbarred.

The panel said disbarment “is justified given the very serious facts in this case,” but it noted this is Majette’s “only disciplinary proceeding in an otherwise distinguished career.”

The recommendation is now before the Georgia Supreme Court.
