School board members to meet with legislators

Cobb County school board members will meet with the county’s legislative delegation on Nov. 14.

School board members have been trying to narrow their list of legislative priorities, discussing topics such as unfunded mandates.

Chamber to host leadership reception

The Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce will host a Key Leadership Reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at The River Club in Suwanee.

The informal reception will honor local and state elected officials.

Alpharetta to display floodplain maps

Alpharetta will hold a public information open house on the new federal floodplain maps from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Nov. 3 at the Engineering/Public Works building, 1790 Hembree Road. There will be no formal presentation.

The revised maps were developed by the Georgia Environmental Protection Division Department of Natural Resources in conjunction with the Federal Emergency Management Agency. DNR staff will be available to answer questions about the map changes, appeals process and insurance.

Checker Cab goes pink to fight breast cancer

Atlanta Checker Cab is participating in the Pink Ride, a fundraising effort for breast cancer awareness. Throughout October, Atlanta Checker Cab has one of its vehicles decorated in pink, and will donate $1 from each fare toward breast cancer research.

Tucker group looks at lane reduction

The Tucker Civic Association has reopened negotiations with the DeKalb Department of Transportation on the Chamblee-Tucker Road “diet,” a project that could reduce traffic lanes on the road from four to two, with a turn lane in the center.

When accessing both Tucker High School and Livsey Elementary School, there has been an accident every 4.5 days, and 75 percent of accidents have come from people turning in and out of side-streets. HMC breast health program on Tuesday

Henry Medical Center will host its Breast Health Connection Program on Tuesday in the Stockbridge hospital’s education center from 6 to 8 p.m.
