Powder Springs tables speed-limit decrease
The Powder Springs City Council voted last week to table a vote on decreasing the speed limit on New Macland Road from 45 to 35 mph.
In a rare disagreement with Mayor Patricia Vaughn, council members Rosalyn Neal, Cheryl Sarvis and Chris Wizner said they would oppose the decrease. Wizner said he thinks more motorists will bypass the city if the decrease is implemented.
Vaughn said she is concerned that drivers travel too fast through the residential section that includes Compton Elementary School. Carolyn Cunningham for the AJC

Berkeley Lake could repave roadways
Based on the completion of a road paving projects assessment done in March, Berkeley Lake has identified city streets in need of resurfacing. Roads in Berkeley Walk, Berkeley Commons, River Mansions, Lakefield Bend, and sections of Habersham Lane, Peachtree Lakes Drive and Bayway Circle are identified for improvement.
The city engineer has proposed a plan to obtain and manage bids and perform construction management for the projects for $6,900.
