A backyard chicken request was approved 3-2 Tuesday by the Cobb County Board of Commissioners.

This special exception was granted to Christopher and Elizabeth Wyatt for the couple to use their chickens for eggs on their half-acre subdivision site.

Lee and Birrell said they were opposed since the Wyatts did not have approval of all of their neighbors which is required of those who live in a platted subdivision and wanting backyard chickens.

Elizabeth Wyatt said she now has two Ameraucana chickens, producing green and blue eggs, with plans to buy at least one more but not to have more than four, according to county regulations.

Opposed were Commission Chairman Tim Lee and Commissioner JoAnn Birrell.

In support were Commissioners Lisa Cupid, Bob Ott and Bob Weatherford.
