Smyrna was proactive with its icy roads and salted before a winter snow storm rolled into town Friday.

The city announced on Facebook that it closed all of its offices at 2 p.m. to give its staff time to get home ahead of the storm.

Forecasters predict the storm could bring up to 4 inches of snow to metro Atlanta this weekend.

“Basically we are going to ask our residents not to travel during the impacted time,” said Jennifer Bennett, city spokeswoman.

There were digital signs up Friday warning drivers to be careful.

"Once precipitation accumulates on roadways ... driving conditions may be far more hazardous than conditions appear. This could be especially true after periods of thaw and refreeze," the city posted.
