Authorities allege that an east Cobb County man accused of fatally stabbing his ex-wife last month also robbed a pharmacy in Fayetteville while police were searching for him in connection with her death.
Fayetteville police slapped 58-year-old John Kristofak with a charge of robbery by intimidation Thursday after Cobb County homicide detectives provided evidence linking Kristofak to a Dec. 26 robbery at a drugstore.
Kristofak is already being held without bond at the Cobb County jail on murder charges related to the Dec. 22 killing of his ex-wife, 48-year-old Donna Kristofak.
Four days after her death, while a regional manhunt for John Kristofak was under way, police say he walked into the Rite Aid at 800 N. Glynn St. in Fayetteville. They allege that he handed a pharmacy employee a note saying he had a gun and demanded Adderall. The drug, a stimulant often prescribed to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), is also abused by some people to help them stay awake or alert.
Fayetteville police said Kristofak fled the store in a small, dark-colored pickup truck.
The search for Kristofak ended when he was arrested a day later at a motel in Union City by members of the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, the Cobb Sheriff’s Fugitive Unit and Union City police.
A Cobb County judge on Thursday delayed a probation revocation hearing for Kristofak.
He appeared in court wearing a red jail jumpsuit. But before the hearing could get under way, Kristofak’s defense attorney, Mitch Durham, asked the court for more time to prepare and to get a psychological evaluation of his client.
Superior Court Judge Adele Grubbs said she would set a new hearing date in six weeks.
Kristofak has been jailed before on charges involving drugs and aggravated stalking of his ex-wife.
He pleaded guilty Oct. 12 to an aggravated stalking charge for chasing down Donna Kristofak at a Wal-Mart parking lot six months earlier. Police said he had left a butcher knife and suicide note in his car.
Grubbs sentenced Kristofak to seven months in jail, with the remainder of his five-year term on probation for the offense. When Kristofak entered the guilty plea, Donna Kristofak told Grubbs she feared for her life and did not think a protective order would stop her ex-husband from harassing or harming her.
Cobb police allege that on Dec. 22, Kristofak forced his way into his wife’s home and fatally stabbed her once in the torso.
