The Cobb Collaborative announced recently that, through support from the Jesse Parker Williams Foundation, they are able to expand their Mind Your Mind initiative.
This initiative brings critically needed mental health education, training sessions, awareness and resources to the Cobb community, according to a county statement.
“Support for this kind of programming is needed even more in the days of this global crisis since social isolation can induce anxiety in many individuals, including those who have never had issues with anxiety previously,” the statement added.
According to the National Alliance for Mental Illness, one in five adults in America experience a mental illness.
Nearly half of Americans report the coronavirus crisis is harming their mental health, according to a Kaiser Family Foundation poll at kff.org.
The Mind Your Mind initiative was developed by the Cobb Collaborative to raise awareness, promote resiliency and reduce stigma around the topic of mental health.
Developed in collaboration with social workers and psychologists from the Cobb County School District and other community participants, this program will continue to reach Cobb residents through a variety of platforms - including virtual training sessions, work groups and educational tools for nonprofit partners to share with their stakeholders.
This program is aligned with the Cobb Collaborative’s unique approach to improve outcomes for children and families, work to include everyone and offer support to those organizations serving Cobb County’s most vulnerable populations.
All events are open to the community.
The Cobb Collaborative is a membership of nonprofit organizations, local government, businesses, faith-based organizations, educational institutions, professional organizations, associations and citizens that share ideas, expertise and resources to meet the needs of Cobb County residents.
