The Cobb County Board of Commissioners voted Tuesday to install state-of-the-art equipment in the transit buses for $2.8 million with 80 percent from federal funding and the remaining $565,192 from the county.

This contract with Clever Devices Ltd. will upgrade the current Cobb Community Transit’s Automatic Vehicle Location System platform for 42 buses, including a mobile app and Wi-Fi for the public.

Also, CCT operates 26 buses on five express routes for the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority that will be upgraded with this on-board technology for systemwide continuity.

However, CCT will seek reimbursement from GRTA of about $630,562.

The current platform by Clever Devices will be discontinued in 2019, but the company will give the county $500,000 for the present equipment, said Cobb Department of Transportation Director Faye DiMassimo.
