The Cherokee County School Board has renewed a partnership agreement with First Baptist Church of Woodstock that allows the district to continue using the church for high school graduation ceremonies.

The agreement also has the church letting the district present other large events, and sponsoring the annual end-of-year luncheon as part of the district’s May principals meeting to thank principals and honor retiring principals.

The school district, in return, will promote First Baptist charitable programs that benefit students and their families, as permitted by school board policy; let the church use school parking lots on Sundays; and work with the church to arrange a possible bus lease agreement for shuttle purposes.

The district acknowledges the church “is a private, religious entity that is not subject to laws that public entities are subject to such as, but not limited to, IDEA Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and ADA.” The agreement runs through June 20, 2020, and automatically renews for additional terms not to exceed five years.
