Cherokee County has released a proposed fiscal 2018 budget of $250.7 million, a 7.5 percent increase from the current fiscal year, with a 3 percent cost-of-living salary adjustment for county employees, and 45 new full-time positions.

A public hearing on the budget is set for 6 p.m. Sept. 19, and Board of Commissioners consideration of the document, for 6 p.m. Oct. 3. Both meetings will take place in Cherokee Hall, 1130 Bluffs Parkway, Canton. A budget overview is available at: http://bit.ly/2xSPe4W, and the full budget, at: http://bit.ly/2gM62CW.

Cherokee expects $127.7 million in tax revenues, the budget overview says. Millage rates of 5.483 for the general fund, 3.298 for the fire fund and 0.581 for the parks bond are expected to produce $76.7 million in property tax revenues. Motor vehicle taxes, the SPLOST and other sources account for the rest of tax revenues.

Additional revenues would flow from licenses and permits, grants, charges for services, fines and forfeitures, interest and other sources.
