Crews of Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services are converging on the county’s Fire Training Center in Holly Springs this month for the annual exercise of testing their fire hoses.

“Hose testing is a NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) standard which requires us to do testing every year,” said Field Operations Chief Shane West. “If the hose fails, it is taken out of service and replaced.”

The tests began Oct. 1 and should be completed by the end of the month, officials said. Hoses are removed from apparatus or storage; labeled and all information, recorded for each length of hose; and the hose, nozzles, couplings and appliances, examined to ensure they meet NFPA standards.

The county has about 23 miles of fire hoses tested each year, officials said.
