Canton has called public hearings on a tentative millage rate, set by the mayor and City Council, that officials say would increase property taxes by 5.35%.

The hearings are scheduled for 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Thursday, July 11, and 6 p.m. Thursday, July 25, in council chambers at City Hall.

The tentative tax increase will result in a millage rate of 5.400 mills, an increase of 0.274 mills, according to a city announcement. Without the tentative tax increase, the millage rate would be no more than 5.126 mills.

A home with a fair market value of $250,000 would see taxes rise by about $27.40, the city said. The increase, for a non-homestead property with a fair market value of $200,000, would be roughly $21.92. Information: https://bit.ly/2KZILyO
