Canton will submit a list of 3.1 miles of streets to the state as it seeks a $248,858 grant to resurface them.

The City Council recently approved the list identifying 13 city-maintained streets to be milled and get an asphalt overlay and, in some cases, restriping, funded by a FY 2017 Local Maintenance & Improvement Grant from the Georgia Department of Transportation.

The work involves segments of Alexander, Broad, Coker, East Killian, Edwards, Jeanette, Killian, Muriel, Short and West South streets, and Scott Mill Road, South McCollum Drive and Village Court. Canton will be responsible for a 30 percent match of state funds.

In FY 2016, the city received $189,011 in LMIG funds to redo 1.97 miles of roadway.
