Canton city officials, business leaders and residents are invited to a 6:30 p.m. Jan. 14 community workshop at City Hall, 151 Elizabeth St., to brainstorm ideas for an updated master plan for the River Mill district and the nearby downtown area.

Community Development Director Ken Patton said the city snagged a $125,000 Livable Centers Initiative grant from the Atlanta Regional Commission last summer clearing the way for the city to expand the boundaries of the plan, which previously included only River Mill.

Patton said input’s already been received on such matters as a proposed mix of uses and transportation options for the area. He said following the January meeting, city officials and a consultant will work up a final document for city council approval in late spring.
