Burglars drove a vehicle through the front of a northwest Atlanta tavern early Tuesday in the second unsuccessful attempt in as many weeks to steal the bar’s cash machine.
Mike Rabb has owned the Corner Tavern on Huff Road at Ellsworth Industrial Boulevard for about two and a half years.
Rabb told the AJC that about 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, “guys drove a car through the front door, trying to get to the ATM machine.”
According to an Atlanta police incident report, a neighbor heard the crash and “went to her balcony to see where the noise was coming from.”
The witness saw three men get out of the stolen vehicle that had crashed into the bar, and when she “made a loud noise,” the three fled the area on foot, leaving the vehicle sticking out of the front of the building, the report stated.
Rabb said that the incident was “the second time in two weeks that they’ve tried to break into the ATM.”
He said that in the first attempt, burglars used a crow bar to pry open the front doors.
“I guess that wasn’t enough, so they decided to use a car this time,” he said.
Rabb said the two break-ins have left him feeling “a little bit invaded. It’s hard enough to run a business, let alone have someone break in your front door with a car.”
