DeKalb County recently began clean-up efforts on a nearly 5-acre parcel off Briarcliff Road destined to become greenspace.

The county paid $275,000 for the land at Chrysler Drive, with the intent to convert it into parkland. The owner dropped the price after a county inspection found several drums containing various chemicals, including arsenic, on the property.

The lower price will help the county pay for cleanup and restoration. Once that work is done in about a year, public meetings will be held for how to develop the park.
