Brookhaven recently adopted a $26.34 million budget, keeping the millage rate at 2.85 and offering raises for city employees, including the city manager.

The 3.5 percent pay raise applies primarily to police officers, since most of the county work is done by private contractors. However, the city remains in negotiations with City Manager Marie Garrett, whose office is seeing a 122 percent increase, to $771,000. That money will go to hiring an assistant manager and part-time assistant, as well as a raise still being negotiated with Garrett. She has been making $170,000 a year.
