A 20-year-old Atlanta man was sentenced to life in prison Wednesday after he admitted to killing his girlfriend and her unborn child in a jealous rage.

Rodrick Armbrester pleaded guilty to malice murder and feticide in the July 6, 2010, shooting death of 17-year-old Jasmine Harris, who was pregnant with the couple’s child, according to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office.

Shortly before the shooting, Armbrester and Harris were with friends on the front porch of a Detroit Avenue home, talking about a fight the man had had earlier in the day with a lifeguard at a local swimming pool.

Harris said, “I hope it wasn’t that cute lifeguard.”

Angered by the comment, Ambrester pulled out a gun and shot the woman in the head at point-blank range, prosecutors said. He fled, leaving Harris dying.

Witnesses identified Ambrester as the shooter. Authorities arrested him two weeks later in Decatur.
