Decatur’s school board anticipates receiving a list of six-to-eight finalists for the superintendent’s job Tuesday night during an executive session at City Schools Decatur’s central office. The meeting is not open to the public, and board Chairman Garrett Goebel said no vote will be taken nor the list of finalists revealed.

Besides the finalists consultant Brad Draeger will present the resumes of all 80-plus candidates. Likely beginning next week, each finalist sits for interviews with both the board and a panel of community members and teachers. Goebel anticipates that Superintendent Phyllis Edwards’ successor will be named in late September, but there’s no way of knowing when that person will actually start. Edwards resigned in March, though she remains on the job with her contract running through Dec. 31.
