Avondale Estates is planning to repair the heavily traversed intersection at Clarendon Road and U.S. 278 next year.

The city has received a grant for the design portion for the project, with the city funding $29,950 and the Georgia Department of Transportation the remaining $150,000. Both design and construction should finish in 2018.

Work includes replacing curbs and raising them from the street, repairing sidewalks, adding pedestrian signals with countdown timers at crossings and adding sharrow lanes (shared vehicle/bicycle lanes).

The work will also attempt to improve the turning radius at 17 North Avondale Road (the old Pallookaville location) where buses consistently run over and destroy the curbing.

Designing the project should begin very early next year.
