After four years of meetings, discussions and an occasional disagreement, improvements to Avondale Estates’ 90-year old Willis Park begin Wednesday (Sept. 9) and is estimated to take four or five months. The park will be closed during construction except for a temporary walking path servicing Museum School students, although that may occasionally shut down for safety purposes.

The three-acre park will get two new playgrounds, a wider entry, a new pavilion, open green space and a permanent pathway encircling the park. Total costs for the work are estimated at $640,000.
