The McDonough City Council voted at its March 7 meeting to approve a $342,772 contract for a bandstand/pavilion at Avalon Park.

The funds will come from the city’s special-purpose local option sales tax revenue. The contract was awarded to Renfroe Construction Company. Also approved for Avalon Park was the installation of an eight-foot-wide walking trail that is intended to connect the splash pad, pavilion and playground.

That work will be done by C&C Lovejoy and the cost is $37,200 plus a 10-percent contingency for some grading if needed, which would boost the cost to $40,920. That money will also come from SPLOST funds.
