The Atlanta City Council has approved spending up to $300,000 to have the Atlanta Police Foundation install at least 23 closed-circuit TV cameras in Buckhead as a crime-reduction initiative.
The cameras would be installed as part of the District 8 Public Safety Master Plan, according to an ordinance passed by the Council on Tuesday. The Police Foundation would procure and install the cameras within 90 days.
The cameras would feed into the police department’s Atlanta Video Integration Center. Once connected, they would become the property of the police and the city.
Half of the project’s cost would be funded by the Renew Atlanta Bond Program, and half by the city Carry Forward Account of Council Member Yolanda Adrean, sponsor of the ordinance.
