April 1 is the deadline to apply for a homestead property tax exemption for the 2012 tax year in Gwinnett County.

The regular homestead exemption reduces the assessed value of your property. To qualify, you must own the property on Jan. 1 of the tax year. There is no age or income limit. The home must be your primary residence. Seniors age 65 and up also can get an exemption from school taxes, though income limits apply.

To apply online or for more information, visit www.GwinnettTaxCommissioner.com. You can also e-mail tax@gwinnettcounty.com or call 770-822-8800 for information.
