The Alpharetta City Council has approved a $247,304 purchase of nine replacement advanced heart monitors and associated equipment for the city’s Fire & Emergency Services.
The monitors are emergency room-type units with leads that attach to a patient to provide vital signs, according to a staff report. They replace nine units purchased in 2008 and at the end of their useful life, lacking the latest features and with hardware and software beyond the manufacturer’s effective support.
A Public Safety Department panel of paramedics expert in cardiac care evaluated three models and recommended a Phillips HeartStart as the lowest-cost unit and with the most comprehensive array of features, staff said. Southeastern Emergency Equipment will be the vendor.
The purchase will be financed by a BB&T capital lease with a five-year term and 1.76 percent fixed interest rate.
