The Alpharetta City Council will consider closing a loophole in its term limits ordinance when it meets at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Alpharetta City Hall, 2 Park Plaza.

Assistant City Administrator James Drinkard said that current ordinance language can be interpreted to mean that once a member of the council serves three terms from a specific post, that council member could then run for a different slot. The language in the revised version clarifies that once a council member bumps up against a term limitation, that member can’t run for any council seat for eight years, but could seek the mayor’s job.

The council also will hold a workshop to discuss “for rent” housing and the mixed-use zoning category, and will hear a presentation on, and discuss, a draft downtown plan.
