Half a century ago, on Oct. 12, members of the La Vista Women’s Club were preparing to raise proceeds for the organization's new $40,000 clubhouse and teenage recreation center.The neighborhood’s first carnival, held at 1885 Lavista Road NE, was to feature home-baked cakes, a calliope — or steam organ — and “two members of the group playing the ‘devil’ in the spook house.” 😈

According to AJC archives: “The colonial brick veneer structure covers nearly 3,300 square feet and includes a fully equipped modern kitchen, large auditorium and downstairs meeting room.”
