The multimillion expansion of a popular Gwinnett park — which includes the addition of the county's first lighted dog park — is now and open to the public.
County officials recently held a ribbon cutting to celebrate the completion of the $5.9 million project at Rock Springs Park near Lawrenceville. In addition to the new 2.3-acre dog park, the expansion includes a new 11,600-square-foot playground, entrance and 340 parking spaces.

A new soccer complex built at the park includes three fields and a concessions building, but the fields will not be available for play until spring, officials said.
“The soccer fields offer opportunities for our diverse population to gather together to play the world’s most popular sport, get to know each other a little better, and hopefully to build connections and strengthen our community,” District 1 Commissioner Jace Brooks said. “We all know that few things unite a community like a sports team.”
The project was paid for using 2009 SPLOST funds.
Rock Springs Park is located at 550 Rocck Springs Road, Lawrenceville.
