DeKalb residents soon might not have their trash picked up unless they use county-provided trash and recycling bins.
The county announced that as of April 18, only official green garbage roll carts, blue recycling bins and blue recycling bags are approved for collection service.
Residents can use secure, durable plastic bags for excess garbage disposal, and they can be placed next to the garbage roll carts on regularly scheduled collection days. Customer-provided yard trimming containers with capacities of between 20 and 40 gallons may continued to be used.
Those who don’t use the county’s garbage and recycling containers will have their collection service delayed, according to the county.
The cut-off of unapproved containers is designed to minimize injuries to trash collectors. The county distributed the new trash and recycling carts last year after it transitioned to one-day-per-week pickup.
