Atlanta is headed to Austin, Texas, with its “wolf pack.”

That's how Kate Atwood, head of the ChooseATL marketing and recruitment effort, describes the army of nearly 1,000 metro Atlanta residents who have been drafted by her team and the Metro Atlanta Chamber to be ambassadors for Atlanta at the famed South by Southwest festival.

Chamber, through the new marketing campaign, plans a two-day sales pitch next week at SXSW to recruit young professionals to come to the Big Peach. The flashy effort is in part to battle some trends that show Atlanta isn't keeping up with the Joneses in the battle to recruit and retain young professionals.

Plenty of states and cities send economic development groups to recruit companies, this campaign, chamber CEO Hala Moddelmog said in a recent interview, is about recruiting makers and doers to come to Atlanta to mold their futures.

The SXSW trip will be the big push rollout of the ChooseATL, which was launched last year. The group is renting the Austin Speakeasy March 13-14 during the festival's interactive confab. The Speakeasy — branded the ChooseATL House — will feature more than 30 Atlanta musical acts, founders of social media platform Yik Yak, a conversation with The Walking Dead executives.

Can going to SXSW and showing Atlanta is cool help win the region a bigger share of young creative professionals?

We’re about to find out.
