Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed will reportedly talk about the impending snowy weather for this weekend at a press conference Friday.

The morning meeting will be the first formal word from the city’s leader since weather experts began suggesting earlier this week that Atlanta could get a mixture of snow, ice and rain beginning late Friday.

Most of the state of Georgia is under a winter weather watch. Gov. Nathan Deal is expected to declare a state of emergency for much of north Georgia on Friday.

In other news, the Georgia World Congress Center said it will close the ice staking rink and Chinese Lantern Festival tourist attraction at Centennial Olympic Park on Friday in expectation of the weather, said spokesman Jason Kirksey. Congress Center officials, which oversee operations of the downtown Atlanta park, will determine later whether to close the attractions on Saturday.
