DeKalb County School District has canceled after-school activities for looming weather.

According to Channel 2 Action News, severe storms expected through metro Atlanta Monday afternoon could spark tornadoes in the area. Extended after-school care for DeKalb Schools will continue as planned.

District officials said as with all inclement weather determinations, conversations are held throughout the day between the superintendent and his cabinet. National Weather Service forecasts are closely watched and decisions are made there.

To date, the district already has canceled or ended classes early eight times this year through weather monitoring, including once on Jan. 8, when Gov. Nathan Deal ordered agencies closed to do freezing rain and snow.
