While many other local government entities are choosing to postpone and cancel meetings or conduct them virtually, the Gwinnett County Board of Education will hold its regular monthly meeting in person.

The evening meeting will occur at its usual time and place, 7 p.m. at the Gwinnett County Public Schools J. Alvin Wilbanks Instructional Support Center, 437 Old Peachtree Road, NW, Suwanee, (The public forum begins at 6:15 p.m.).

Since the schools are closed to student instruction and in order to minimize the crowd, the agenda has been adjusted from what was originally planned. The board will not meet with the Teachers Advisory Council.

In addition, there will be no board recognitions and the number of staff in attendance will be limited primarily to just division heads. Reports originally scheduled to be presented by other staff members will be moved to a subsequent board meeting.

Prior to each monthly business meeting, the Gwinnett County Board of Education holds a work session for the purpose of discussing a variety of topics related to student achievement and effective operations within the school system. The work session typically is held in the afternoon on the day of the school board's regularly scheduled monthly business meeting. With an abbreviated agenda this month, it will begin an hour later at 3 p.m. in the Executive Board Room.

The only item on that agenda is a board business oversight workshop.  Chief Financial Officer Joseph P. Heffron will provide an overview of key financial issues and topics relevant to the sound fiscal operations of the school system.
