The Kennesaw Police Department has set up a Go Fund Me account to help security guard Christopher Sparkman in his long recovery from a shooting, according to the Kennesaw Police Department on its Facebook page.

“The men and women from the Kennesaw Police Department are deeply concerned about the health and welfare of Christopher Sparkman and his family,” a statement said. The fund was started in conjunction with Levenson and Associates.

More than $5,000 was raised in the first 11 hours.

Sparkman, 29, was shot multiple times on April 29, 2014 while working as a security guard at a Cobb County FedEx facility when Geddy Lee Kramer opened fire on co-workers before killing himself.

Sparkman has endured 32 surgeries since then, and while his medical expenses are covered, he and his wife, Jamie Lynn, 25, have little money for day-to-day living expenses. Jamie Lynn said her husband, who was a contract worker through Allied Barton, has been denied disability benefits twice.

This week, the couple publicly asked for financial help for the first time. Jamie Lynn maintains a blog about her husband's condition, and those wishing to assist the couple can go to http://sparkmanstrong.blogspot.com/
