Several people were injured Tuesday morning in a New York City apartment high-rise fire.

An infant was among 22 people reportedly injured in a New York City apartment fire early Tuesday morning.

The FDNY told Pix11 the fire broke out in an Upper East Side apartment building around 2 a.m. Besides the baby, two adults were reported to be in critical condition, and four firefighters were also injured.

The blaze broke out in an apartment kitchen on the 24th floor of an East 72nd Street 41-story high-rise.

Authorities said the occupants of the apartment tried to escape but passed out.

At least 14 people suffered minor injuries, according to NBC New York.

Fire Chief Joseph Ferrante told reporters on the scene that an open door allowed the fire to spread. "It turned a one-room kitchen fire into a fire that spread throughout the upper floors of the building," he said.

The fire was officially under control by 4 a.m., officials said.
